Jewelry

Beautiful jewels sparkle only under light. Jewellery stores decoration always has elegance and luxury in mind. The splendour of jewels in stores can only be highlighted with proper lighting. Since jewels are precious, delicate and small, for security consideration, they are exhibited in showcase and display window under brilliant light to present the luxurious attraction.

The colour from a light source is “light source colour”. The colour of jewels reflected is commonly known as “surface colour”. Except some jewels with fluorescence or phosphorescence effect, jewels themselves are nonluminous. TDS lighting solutions focus on the following aspects.

1. Light-colour match: the best colour temperature is chosen to match the type of jewellery. Light sources with the same colour temperature are used in the same area to present the lustre and colour of jewels.

2. Presentation: the presentation design should conceal the lamps to prevent glare and present the articles most realistically. Take advantage of light to display the space and depth of showcase and realistically showcase the exhibits and decoration. Illumination is used to present different sides and quality of jewels and display the beauty of exhibits such as texture, quality and colour.
3. Aesthetics: Lighting should decorate the space, create an atmosphere and beautify the environment. Lighting should be designed to satisfy the jewellery display requirements as much as possible. Meanwhile, it should meet the decoration requirements in showcases. The brightness should suit different jewels or customized requirements to create a comfortable, highlighted and vivid display.
4. Proper illuminance: in the lighting design for jewellery, accent lighting with sufficient illuminance (accent lighting to ambient lighting ratio should be about 10~30:1) should be used to highlight small jewels such as gold, platinum, pearl and diamond; while the lighting for some jewels such as jade and crystal emphasizes softness, so it does not require high illuminance.
5. The sense of space: to highlight a certain object or part in the display space, regional lighting and special-effect lighting should be used in showcases to form the contrast and variation of bright area and dark area, create various environments required and bright and dark areas to form a sense of space. It generally should use fewer point light sources and combine the narrow-beam spotlights (with a contrast ratio up to 1:30) for lighting every jewel to enhance depth in space and fully display every jewel’s beauty.
6. The characteristic display: for the jewels whose presentation totally depends on reflection such as gold and pearl, the incidence direction of light should be stressed to capture customers’ attention with the reflected “bright spots”; while for the jewels such as jade and crystal, the transparency should be stressed.
